Quality assurance of animal feed sector prior links

Signals have recently reached us that GMP-certified companies are still having problems with suppliers who do not use the required quality assurance. It must be emphasised that it is not acceptable under the Animal Feed Sector GMP Regulation to purchase from these suppliers except in cases for which a plan of action has been made available. The GMP Regulation requires that only products from a quality assured chain may be purchased and processed. Every link in the chain (including the traders) should be certified as such.

The GMP Regulation allows various forms of certified quality assurance. These are:
  1. The supplier is certified in accordance with the GMP Regulation, or
  2. The supplier participates in a plan of action for quality assurance in the raw materials channel, or
  3. The supplier is certified in accordance with an (equivalent) quality system approved by the Product Board Animal Feed (for example GMP Road Transport from OVOCOM and FEMAS in the UK versus the QC standard).

These options are briefly explained in the document below. Only suppliers who demonstrably comply with one of these options are sufficiently qualified to supply animal feed to GMP+ certified companies. Attention: in all three situations specified above the supply of animal feed to GMP-certified companies should take place via GMP-certified transport.
