The new approach was presented to coordinators at the harmonisation meeting in June 2025 and was positively received. There was a general agreement that, although the examination process is becoming more efficient, ongoing knowledge development remains essential to maintaining high standards.
What will change?
The exams will continue to assess the minimum required knowledge of auditors. However, experienced auditors will no longer need to retake the basic exam every three years. Instead, each auditor will only need to pass the exam twice per scope. If they continue auditing and meet all other requirements, no further exams for that scope will be required. This will streamline the process and reduce the workload for both auditors and Certification Bodies (CBs). To support ongoing knowledge development, GMP+ International will provide coordinators with materials to be used during harmonisation meetings.
First harmonisation material available in September
To support this new approach, GMP+ International will begin providing mandatory harmonisation materials to Certification Bodies. The first module will be released in September 2025 and will cover the changes to the Feed Certification scheme implemented in March 2025. This module will apply scheme-wide rather than to a specific scope.Â
It will also serve as a pilot for our new approach to annually sharing knowledge on GMP+ requirements with all auditors. We will actively gather feedback and input to improve the format and content of these materials.
What does this mean for you?
This change will reduce the pressure, time and logistical effort involved in auditor examinations, such as travel and scheduling. It will also provide direct support from GMP+ International in developing auditors’ knowledge. Certification Bodies will be required to use the materials provided by GMP+ International during their next harmonisation meeting(s). Futher information will be shared as the new approach is implemented.
