A changed market calls for a new soya standard

At GMP+ International, we believe that deforestation and its impact on sustainability is an important issue.

Together with initiatives from the market, we have developed Feed Responsibility Assurance (FRA) standards that assure the production and trade of responsible soy (including deforestation-free and conversion-free) in the feed chain. More initiatives are now emerging in this area.

New standard recognised by QS

Starting from 01-01-2024, QS will be requiring companies in their supply chain that trade, process and/or use soya products to comply with the requirements of the QS Add-on module: Purchase of deforestation-free soy. In order to achieve complete mutual recognition with QS, GMP+ International is developing a new and workable standard, MI 5.6 Production and Trade of responsible feed. GMP+ certified companies that are certified under the MI 5.6 standard comply with the QS requirements.

Other FRA standards

Together with QS, we have concluded that our existing MI 5.1, MI 5.2 and MI 5.3 standards for the production and trade of responsible soy comply with the requirements of QS (GMP+ news article 2023-07-31). As of 01-01-2024, MI 5.2 accepts multiple soy standards. These and other changes will be presented at the next meeting of the International Expert Committee. Publication is scheduled for 01-01-2024 via the GMP+ International website.
